Tragic Accident Claims Life of Beloved North Adams Barber and Musician
Christopher Barton, a 51-year-old barber and musician, was killed in a freak accident on Sunday night when his car rolled over him while he was performing maintenance on it.
Barton, owner of the popular barbershop Klipper Kingz, was working on his vehicle on Bradley Street, a steep route in North Adams, around 8 p.m. when the incident occurred. Interim Police Chief Mark Bailey reported that no one else was driving the vehicle at the time of the collision.
Bailey described the incident as “truly a freak accident,” noting that Barton was pronounced dead at the hospital. The State Police accident reconstruction team is currently investigating the incident to determine its exact cause.
Emergency responders, including city police and firefighters, worked together to free Barton from beneath the vehicle as quickly as possible. The fire department utilized specialized equipment, including chock blocks and hydraulic tools known as the Jaws of Life, to lift the car.
Barton’s death has had a profound impact on the North Adams community, where he was highly respected for his contributions to the local music scene and his barbershop business.
