
Tragic Accident Claims Life of Onamia Man
A devastating single-vehicle accident on County Highway 23 in Crow Wing County took the life of 60-year-old James Gregory Nickaboine of Onamia on Sunday, December 29. The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. in Maple Grove Township, southeast of
Brainerd, according to the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrived at the scene to find a Ford Ranger had veered off the roadway and ended up in a ditch near the 8000 block of County Highway 23. Unfortunately, Nickaboine, the vehicle’s sole occupant, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An autopsy has been performed by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office, and both the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol are actively investigating the cause of the crash. Emergency responders from the Minnesota
State Patrol, North Memorial Health Ambulance, Garrison Fire Department, and Lakes Area Rescue provided assistance at the scene.
